Music October & November 2025

Playlists or October and November !!! 2025 master playlist here !!!

honestly there is kinda too much to say…. lots of music discovery this month cause that happens when ur in a van with a bunch of people and theyre all showin each other stuff

Ya’ll this is gonna sound crazy but October was the first time I listened to a Weezer album front to back…. Blue and White and Pinkerton. I picked the ones I liked the most and threw em on here…. skipped the obvious hits.

Love the new Rosalia, love the new verity den, love the new Oneohtrix!

i lubbbb the new 9million album

this is my prefab pick of the month …. the burden of love is so strange

This song from the Berserk soundtrack has been blowing my mind… this was a song Spyder put me onto. It’s one of the most haunting things I’ve ever heard.

Been loving this 300skulls album…. so hyperactive

The song USE THE KEYBOARD KNIFE is #1

This album is what im talking about… mr jake sent me “baruch ata” off of this and im addicted to it

Found that my favorite geese song is “Islands of Men” any other pick is wrong wrong wrong

Greetings after the most epic tours of our LIFESSSSSSSSSS!!!!

All of the shows were litttttterally incredible and our collective faves though were different than I would’ve expected!!! The unexpectedly lit shows were San Diego, SLC, Denver and Montreal….

As expected Oakland, NYC (both but esp night 2), DC night 2 (my bday and someone got proposed to in the pit) were awesome awesome awesome. Like I said though all of em were so so fun and special.

In Pittsburgh a guy drank beer out of a sneaker after I joked about it on stage…. that will be a lasting memory

Daffo freaking rocked and are sweeties, and 9million, the band that opened for us in Toronto were soooooo fuckin epic.

Here’s my fave fit from tour ( I think this was Montreal?) I felt very very me in this

Black thrifted sweater, my blue Tastee Freez tshirt, thrifted black skirt, purple and black knee high socks, short lil leopard ugg boots thrifted in Boone, NC when we had our show at Lily’s there years ago

my mom got me this Blythe doll for my birthday…. Opening this accessed a point deep within me, the 10 year old doll collector of yore.

I didn’t specifically ask for one but somehow my mom knew I would love her… and picked the sweetest outfit too….

My favorite meal of tour was probably this congee I had at Yin Ji Rice Roll in Philly …. Congee is kinda the ultimate tour food, so warming without being heavy…

We also loved this place Mezzaterranean in Rancho Cucamunga, CA…. the best med food i’ve ever had tbh… they were making all that shit so fresh.

I got hot pot in SLC with my sister too that was soooo fucking epic.

I got a small bottle of this at everything store too….. smells like a memory of a rainy day as a kid!

Vinyl from past two months : DBT Dirty South Reissue, 9Million S/T, Dead C Tusk

got this single earring from Rabies Dog …. gonna wear it or the rest of my life

The DBT Reissue has a bunch of old pix and also a live set recording from the Flicker Theater…. which is iconic cause Wednesday played the Flicker in Athens a few ago while DBT was playing at 40 Watt… and we went to their show after ours was done and it was one of the most special nights of my LIFE

Saw our besties in Friendship on the first half of the tour, had an assload of van trouble, got stuck for TWO hours in Manhattan trying to cross into Brooklyn during the veterans day parade, saw Mr. Owen Ashworth Advance Base for a spell in Chicago, made unbreakable bonds with our TM’s Ash and Patrick and our sound guy Christian, tried to go to my friend Imogen’s elopement in Cleveland but biked to the wrong courthouse, played dice, played tetris, hung out with Maura in SLC and in DC, ate a few custom cakes, went to battlebots in Vegas (well, my bandmates did I had to tap out after like half an hour cause I got really over stimulated), covered Flyleaf Lucinda Williams and Big Star….. ate so much good food… drove for ever……

Finished this project I started like half a year ago… did it halfway then looked at it uninspired for months. Finished it the day after we got back from tour.

Its a shower curtain folded in half…. gonna make another one I think cause I got another shower curtain somewhere… gotta find it.

I think I’m gonna do this with some of the doodads ya’ll give me that I don’t know what to do with. Theyre all so special !!!

I do a lot more shopping when I travel…… I got a bunch of shit on these tours compared to previous months

Clothes… Music…. Food….

@neptunne

I got some incredddddible clothes in NYC at my favorite store Venus in Tokyo ! Including this angel theory piano top which is possibly my favorite piece of clothing of all time

the pink slip dress is eventyrden <3

the shorts are miracle ransom <3

This lariat shirt I got at everything store in chicago <3

CDs from past two months mostly from Amoeba merle & george jones from my mom tho

Lucinda Williams “Life Without Bones” and “Happy Woman Blues”, Polvo “Cor-Crane Secret” and s/t, Matthew Sweet “100% Fun”, TAGABOW “Lotto”, Starr 67 demos, and the Tragic Heroine CD was given to me at a show!

Okay I think thats all i have to report for this month !!!!

We’re recording a live session in December but otherwise that’s a wrap for us playing live for the year…. Next year begins some crazy crazy touring <3 excited to see ya’ll everywhere

Music September 2025

playlist here…. I am really behind on the youtube one and I dont think i’m gonna get around to updating it this month sry

Another random ass month listening wise. I’ll say my biggest influences on my listening this month by far have been NTS radio shows (esp Mississippi Records, Reimagining Country and the TAGABOW/Julias war shows) and my friend Tanner who’s been making me playlists.

Gonna thank him PACIFICALLY for finally getting me on my Prefab Sprout grind, he sent me a text that got me on board with their album Steve McQueen sayin: “Once the song Bonny hits you’ll be in. Prefab is a rare mix of intelligent, sexy, funny, but very sincere and emotional” and it’s all true….. this music makes me feel CRAZY things

Special shout out to my buddy JB for reminding me of the existence of Autolux. I have adored checking back in with them this month. So many bangers on their album Future Perfect

An MF at Grimey’s was playing this Luke Schneider ambient album and I was likeeee damn okay!!!

Loved the Earl, Dijon and Geese albums OBVI…. many selects from those on this playlist.

ya’ll…. this new Sarah Mclachlin song goes waaaay too hard….. okay byeeee

Reconnected with The Glands this month too…. they feel like a deeply underrated band…. should be a mulitgenerationally recognized and beloved band.

We play them in the van a lot on tour and it never gets old

dove deep into this sacred steel album, which revolves around pedal steel in gospel music. Discovered it on the NTS show Reimagining Country. It is NUTS how much some of the steel playing on this album feels like a human voice… it’s incredible.

Led me to other gospelish music hence the Mahalia Jackson

August 2025

Whats up babiezzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!! This is the general page where I talk about random news and shit!

I talk about Music I’ve been Listening to here and Movies and TV and stuff here!

Monthly vidddddy here

Bleeds comes out next month can u believe it

We released “Bitter Everyday” this month with this epic ass video by our boy Ben Turok.

I don’t normally read comments on the videos but Ben texted me being like “damn people are being crazy on there” and I guess I have thick skin by this point cause I was like “this is a very normal comment section, videos with women on youtube.com have insane comment sections”.

I identify so much with this comment specifically on it <3 for some reason it makes me proud that I know such a beautiful boatful of skanks !!! I realize this was intended as a negative comment but i’m just kinda like “okay so ur sayin we hot”

got sent this fan made controversy video title card. I think the actual video is about Wednesday TV show

I’m obsessed with this

pic at Nightclub 101 by Caroline Safran

August was a big month of like doing a lot of behind the scenes PR stuff… I did a trip to London and NYC for some solo sets and interviews and radio stuff and photoshoots la di da la di da. It was my first time doing a trip solely for that sort of thing.

I think I’m healing my relationship with London… I have had a couple nightmare days and nights there but this time I rode bikes around a bunch and ate a tonnnnn of amazing food. I only fell on the bike like almost one time.

@street_microwave

I gave myself a rule that I’m only allowed to get tattoos when I’m out of town, so of course i got a couple on my trip. Bitch got her first neck tatt from Zau (@street_microwave) in London! New Language, the tattoo studio they work out of was possibly the sweetest environment I’ve ever gotten somethin done at. Definitely gonna go back next time i’m in town.

I also got a incred blast over on my arm by my fave @hel.heart in NYC, but it aint quite healed up yet so I’ll haveta put up a pic of it later <3

my mom took this pick of an owl on my dads car the otha night

I also got some clothes for the first time in a while cuz u know the big cities got all the crazy shopping spots, especially for the small designers I love to support

I got this Caro Chia shirt in black from Cafe Forgot in NYC <3 I’m deeply obsessed with this brand now…. I feel like all their shit is mad wearable but also the designs are all special !! I definitely want more from them.

Last but not least I got this archived 2011 Junya Wantanabe dress at Nordic Poetry in London. It is so gorgeous I can’t believe I own it. Luckily this purchase was fully reimbursed by the airline who lost my luggage for two days… leaving me without anything to wear to the show at Rough trade show I did. I got it also intending to wear it to a friends wedding next year <3

Here’s a lil book haul for the month!

Most of this is stuff I picked up with my friend Michael while we were browsing a book store togetha. I’ve been trying to get recommendations from friends mostly for my book buying (instead of the internet) and he helped me find lots-o-gold.

He found me copies of Denis Johnson’s “Train Dreams”, Joy Williams’ “The Changeling”, Alfred Hayes’ “My Face For The World to See”, Rachel Ingalls’ “Mrs. Caliban”, Carson McCullers’ “The Member of the Wedding” and “Novels in Three Lines” by Felix Feneon (which I’ve been tearing through since I got home).

I picked up Creation Lake at a bookstore in London, and I also ordered a copy of Larry Brown’s “Dirty Work” on thriftbooks for myself.

I think that’s about it for me here this month… I did a bunch of stuff I didn’t talk about here but there’ll be clips in the monthly video

Excited for ya’ll to hear the whole ass thing

I’ll catch up w you when I’m around

I got this incredible Jersey Shore printed tee at one of my fave stores in NYC: Venus in Tokyo <3 I’ve wanted a piece by this designer (made of glue) there for a while, I love their printed basketball shorts too. I’m gonna wear the shit out of this.

Picked up a few classics at Rough Trade after filming their “Shoplifting” segment where I pick out a bunch of records from the store. I didn’t realize you didn’t get to keep the records when you do that though so in my mind I was about to leave with 10 bangin records, instead I just bought these two! All the ones i suggest in the video (whenever it comes out) are sick though

Big cities also usually allow me access to the smelling ability… the ability to smell good smells…. at the fancy stores… where they sell fancy perfumes!

The ones I loved the best were :

Smoke by Perfumer H - this bitch is expensive… I might buy a lil sample size for a couple bucks to use on special occasions though cause I ADORE the smell.

Just the description makes me woozy!

“The smell of the air after burning wood is fused with damp earth, wild herbs and clean spices to create a masterfully unique amber. Fragrance notes: Coriander seed, angelica grain, rose, camomile, frankincense, agar wood, sandalwood and birch tar”

I also got to smell some Regime Des Fleurs perfumes! My faves are Leather Petals (Patchouli, Artemisia, Davana, Osmanthus) and Fleur Eclair (Cocoa Butter, Jasmine, Patchouli, Blond Woods). I ordered tiny sample viles of both and I’ve been wearing the shit out of them.

Honestly all of these perfumes are wintry and very similar to Bibliotheque by Byredo which is the only full bottle of perfume I have ever purchased. I like smelling warm and wintry at all times of year honestly, I’m not a huge fan of floral springtime scents, I wanna smell like an old book all year round.

This has been a long tangent… hehe

Music August 2025

I made the switch frm spotify bitches!!! So can you <3

I used the app songshift to transfer from spotify to apple music (they made it possible to switch over all your liked songs which was previously not an option when I tried to switch years ago)

Here’s the monthly playlist and the yearly

As more and more artists take their music off spotify, I think I genuinely feel movement happening. I’m figuring out what approach feels right to us rn in regards to our music on there, so will keep ya’ll updated <3

Kinda a chaotic listening month if you can’t tell from the presence of Demi Lovato, Hannah Montana era Miley and Zara Larsson

It’s been a month of digging indie guitar music and Forever 21 pop for whatever reason. It’s the end of the summer baby.

New Cass Mccombs is unsurprisingly litty

I LOVE this song Peace

Our boy Xandy plays on the gorgeous new Teethe album <3 Tires and Bookmarks is my fave, Xandy’s parts make me so emotional THAT IS MY FRIEND!!!

The new Deftones album is EXACTLY what i fucking needed. I get so much happiness listening through this shit. I love a later period rock band album that is as deeply creative as older albums. I don’t know how their sound still is this fresh all these years later….. actually i do… they just do what the fuck they want and if you stick to your personal taste as a musician instead of catering to trends of the times your music alwayssss stays fresh.

my mind is a mountain and departing the body might be some of my faves of their whole career

Deftones 4ever

I really like this new song of Demi’s even though it is clearly running off the steam of Charli’s tea both in the sonic and visual sense.

I think it’s funny how her expression is sooooooo exactly the same throughout the whole video. She looks hot though! I honestly wish the best for her, her life seems to have been fucking hellish.

New Gregory album TAGABOW and Geese singles obviously sicko mode

Such an odd month for me music wise….. welp ! Hope yall HAGS !!!!

While were on the pop train… I like the fucking Zara Larsson song !!!! I LOVE the video. It reminds me of buying perfume at Victoria’s secret as a middle schooler.

I think the beat underlying the whole song is sick, especially the first minute or so before the first chorus.

The lyrics are shockingly bad but I can’t help loving this leave me alone.

August 2025

Weapons (2025) 9.5/10 -

This movie was a fucking romp!! Me and my friends saw it on opening night which is something I don’t think I’ve ever done?? Was an extra strange experience cause I had this haunting feeling that I recognized the guy who played the main kids dad and it was bothering the shit out of me !! Where did recognize him from??? Then I remembered it was fucking Whitmer, who directed the She’s Leaving You video for Jake’s last album. So weird to know someone in a movie from real life. The context of the theater literally made him unrecognizable to me. Anyways…. incredible movie, had a wonderful time with my buddies.

The Thing (1982) - 9.5

It’s a classic for a reason fellas.

Highly influential scifi scary that obviously influences to this day. Someone online somewhere mentioned parts of Sinners from this year pay homage to this’n. The Faculty also references it alot, which is one of my faves <3

Epic performances, epic to watch with my lil friends, only downside is that they gotta kill some puppies that get infected in the movie (none actually harmed obvi) but that is just so brutal to watch to meeeee

Nosferatu (2024) 5/10 -

gorgeous but boring. 10/10 costuming though. I watched it on a plane which didn’t help cause I hate planes so so much. I need to watch the Herzog one, I think I’d like that one a lot better.

Exotica (1994) - 6/10

Free to watch on youtube here which is cooL!

Centered around a strip club with stories of its patrons and employees all intertwining

Entertaining but not life changing

The Fall in the House of Usher (2023) - 7/10

The last of the Mike Flanagan shows I was catching up on.

I thought this one was fine! Story of a shitty and cursed rich ass family. Felt a lil preachy at times which took me out of ‘er a bit.

Definitely entertaining but not life changing.

My official Flanagan ranking is:

  1. Hill House

  2. Midnight Mass

  3. Usher

  4. Bly Manor

America’s Team (2025) - 8/10

I’m not a sports person in general, it’s really hard to get me identifying with a team, even the Carolina Panthers or the Hornets. I wish I could though cause it is such a deep and instant way to bond with other sports people.

I DO however heavily fuck with the storytelling in the context of sports documentaries like “The Last Dance” and “America’s Team”. So emotional !!!!!! Drama !!! Hunger for power and victory !!!! Goofy ass characters <3

It’s about the Dallas Cowboys in the 90’s, which was my Poppop’s team hence the line in his namesake song Cliff: 'and my Dad picked a Dallas Cowboys urn to put your ashes in”. I thought of him a lot while watching this.

The Pitt (2025) - 8.5/10

I’m not really a medical drama person but I fucked w this.

It was reallly realllly good to watch while churning out a ton of handmade Wednesday shirts for a certain upcoming Rat related flea market hint hint

SO fucking intense and SO much going on but they still manage to flesh out a shit ton of characters. Idk how they pulled this thing off tbh that’s most of what I’m amazed at.

Apparently it’s pretty accurate to the experience of an actual ER. Another preachy-ish show, they really try to fit in EVERY relevant social issue… but I think most of their takes were good.

Apparently one of the actors is from Greensboro too… which …. yay!

Little Lazarus by: Michael Bible (2025)

Another entry into the Bibleverse that i adore! More winding and tender storytelling from the GOAT of Statesville, North Carolina. The way the pieces interlock is super satisfying.

If you like thinking about what exotic animals the rich could be hiding in the skyscrapers of NYC this one’s for you.

Novels in Three Lines by: Félix Fénéon (originally published in 1906)

This is a collection of very short (around 1 or two sentence) translated French newspaper stories written by the author and collected by his wife.

The section of the paper he was writing for was supposed to only give quick details and headline like delivery, but Fénéon uses the little space he has to inject poetry, twist a knife, and sometimes squeeze in a joke.

20th century short form content.

The guy seems like a legend in the literary scene that surrounded him at the time… and the mundane and accessible look into humanity so distant feeling is so neat.

So many people died in the street!!

Some of my favorites are:

“ “I could have done worse!” exultantly cried the murderer Lebret, sentenced at Rouen to hard labor for life. ”

and

“Schoolboys in Vibraye, Sarthe, attempted to circumcise a a child. He was rescued, although dangerously lacerated.”

and

“Louis Lamarre had neither job nor home, but he did possess a few coins. At a grocery store in Saint-Denis he bought a liter of kerosene and drank it.”

and

“Napoleon Gallieni, a stone cutter, broke his neck falling down the stairs. He may have been pushed. Either way he as taken to the morgue.”

Hour of the Star by: Clarice Lispector (1977)

Was not into this book for the first 40 pages or so… which is a lot for a book that’s under 200. Super dense and confusing start to this story, glad I stuck with it though cause once it got rolling I quite liked it! Once the book came to be more simply about the main character Macabea and her thoughts of her very simple life I had a much better/easier time reading it.

I’ve been trying to get into Clarice Lispector for a while cause I think she’s coool asf. Hour of the Star is the last novel she worked on before dying of ovarian cancer in the 70s. She is a huuuuuge influence on Brazilian literature, and her works are all in translation if they’re being read in English.

Death: The High Cost of Living by : Neil Gaiman (1993)

This was my first Neil Gaiman read. I thought it was just okay!

No spectacular takeaways from this particular story, and the main character was giving manic pixie in a very “90’s goth girl” way ! So it was a little hard for me to get out of that vantage point.

July 2025 Movies/TV/Books/Games

Okay I watched like a bajillion things this month. Did a lot of sewing and that’s usually when I do that shiii.

Girlfriends (1978) - 7/10

Watched this after Lena Dunham suggested it in her criterion closet picks! She says it’s like her show Girls but made decades earlier, but I actually argue it’s basically a 70’s version of Frances Ha.

It’s a sweet movie, the characters are a joy to watch. The pacing is a little funny but it’s worth it to see such cutie moments and Christopher Guest and Bob Balaban as very young chaps.

The Long Goodbye (1973) - 7.5/10

Interesting character study, honestly I never have seen a movie with someone quite like private detective Marlowe …

The man loves talkin to himself, bein a smart ass and his cat.

I really like Robert Altman’s film Nashville, so I wanted to try anotha! I thought this one didn’t quite measure up but it was a fun watch!

There’s no twist really that surprises you as you might think with a crime thriller… the point is just letting Marlowe smoke a damn cigarette.

I rewatched Easy Rider (1969) with a friend. A romp as always. I love Jack Nicholson in this.

I covet the sunglasses that Peter Fonda wears in this movie….. I wonder if I can find a similar pair

Bully (2001) - 3/10

Not a huge Larry Clark fan… I thought KIDS was fine enough but I thought I’d try another one of his movies just because!

I came away thinking that guy is a fucking creep…. !

The story is compelling… the acting is mostly great considering how young all the actors are and I think the way teens behaved after murdering someone is definitely accurate. Immediately freaking out, returning to the scene of the crime multiple times, and bragging about it to like 50 people is so likely.

Larry Clark makes some pretty disturbing decisions though based on the age of the actors in this movie…. and that seems to be the general consensus online too.

Cure - 1997 - 10/10 visuals 7/10 overall

this seems to be a theme this month

I love a mystery, I love a psycho killer, I love J-horror from this time over all!

I don’t however love when I have to google what a movie is suppposed to imply by it’s ending… and the answer is that it’s alllll subjective

like gimme a lil somethin to gratify the mystery!!

Idk… maybe I’ll come around more to that

GORGEOUS movie though visually…. quite possibly the most gorgeous

6/10 - Saw this in theaters with some buddies. Thought it was entertaining but I think the moments they were going for something emotional fell pretty short. In a movie covered in death it’s hard to feel much when there is another death that is supposed to weigh heavier than the rest for some reason.

The best part of the movie is when the soldier is showing the young boy photos of his girlfriend on his phone.

I also really hate when a movie is secretly a bait and switch for a sequel…. just like…. tell a complete story ??? Idk maybe the follow ups will be good but like, in the moment I just felt betrayed.

Crumb (1994) - 9/10

I loved this documentary. I love a slice of life, especially one that focuses on a misunderstood artist and his wacky family (see: American Movie)

R. Crumb is a cartoonist and obviously a total bastard. I loved learning more about his life and career.

Point Break (1991) - 6/10

Goofy ass movie…. I love when hyper macho shit is gay as hell.

First 30 minutes were fun but after that I was like… I get the idea… dunno if I need to b seein much more of this.

Part of my journey to try to love Swayze… still not convinced.

The Fisher King - 1991 - 7/10

This is such a random ass movie. Jeff Bridges is a radio host who kinda fuels a hate crime… then befriends a homeless guy who is Robin Williams…. some other stuff?

I highly dislike the way Bridges character treats his GF who wears cheetah print pants and is wayyy too fuckin good for him.

Some good bits of dialogue and generally poetic shit happening throughout.

Robin Williams is a joy to watch even though this movie is so goofy and weird. He’s got his ding-a-ling out in Central Park in this movie.

Random Tom Waits cameo.

Heavenly Creatures - 1994 - 7/10

Some really iconic early CGI and practical effects!

Melanie Lynsky and Kate Winslet’s acting debut!

lil gay movie about girls who are obsessed with an opera singer and writing a novel together.

They kill somebody??

I’m really obsessed with Meg fr though… Like Lena I think she’s a freakin genius.

I’ve watched this segment of her on Colbert like 4 times.

Too Much (2025) - 7/10

We have a song in episode 2 of this show! Weeeee!!!

I love Megan Stalter so much, I think she is such a star.

“Too Much” is no Girls, I think it would be hard for Lena Dunham to recreate that particular lightning in a bottle… but it was a fun lil show :)

Midnight Mass (2021) - 8.5/10

I’m catching up on all the Mike Flanagan shows. I LOVED hill house and I thought Midnight Mass was pretty damn good!

Like Flanagans other shows tho the dialogue can get a bit…. hm…. like unrealistically deep. The monologues…. there needs to be about 50% less of em.

His shows are super trilling though and I’ve really enjoyed them so far!

I love that he reuses actors across different shows too, makes for fun little moments of like “yoooo I know that guy!”

Many Deaths of Laila Starr - Ram V and Filipe Andrade - 5/10

Got a big haul of graphic novels from Thriftbooks this month. This is one of em!

The death god is sent to Earth to kill the man who put her out of a job.

Didn’t totally blow my mind story/dialogue wise but the illustrations are gorgeous

Porcelain - Maria Llovet 4/10 story 10/10 illustrations

A pretty basic Alice in Wonderland inspired graphic novel! But gdddddd the illustrations are incredible.

Some of the fits in this story go sooo hard.

If you want something stylish and short to read in an evening this is the one!

The Lottery and Other Stories - Shirley Jackson - 7/10

Most of these stories are not what I’d call horror, which is what I kinda look for/prefer when I sit down to read Shirley Jackson.

These stories are mostly slice of life, often where the crux is some sort of misstep in polite decorum of the time (1940s/50s). I think they would’ve maybe been considered horror at the time??
If they are technically horror its a very quiet and subtle version of it.

The title story “The Lottery” is deeply iconic and so good!!! I highly suggest everyone reads it at least once and especially thinks on how innovative it would’ve been for a woman of the time to have written it.

As for the rest, unless you really love historical fiction and being kinda immersed in the banal of the mid 20th century, you might not get a ton out of this?

I enjoyed reading it but it wasn’t blowing my mind.

Still a Shirley Jackson stan for lyfe tho.

Ancient Hours - Michael Bible - 9/10

I didn’t want this to be over !!!!!! The second book of Michael Bible’s that I have read (wrote about Empire of Light last month) and I completely adored it.

Already have another of his books on the docket to read.

Soooo crazy to read a book that mentions my hometown??? I fucking love NC dudeeeeeee urgh

A crime/slice of life/small town history told in a way I have never experienced.

Ya’ll will like this one I guarantee

Teenager - Bud Smith - 6/10

Read his short stories collection last month and it was immediately added to my faves of all time. This novel was a really fun read but I couldn’t help but compare it to “Double Bird” which I loveddddd so much.

This is a road novel about two teenagers (hence the name). They go to Graceland, they kill some people, they live up high in a tree for a bit.

Really fun if you need something to tear through.

Beacon Pines - 2022 - 8/10

This game has some deeply adorable characters and a really innovative way of story telling I’ve never seen before!! It’s kinda just been a joy to play!

Story driven point and clicky mystery type thing: my fave genre of game since I was a kid :)

You’ll like this if you like Night in The Woods! Which is one of my fave games.

Minus a full point for how much I dislike the narrators voice…. eeeek!!! I love the sounds the animals make when they talk to each other in this game though.

Tell Me Why - 2020 - 5/10

I’m a “Life is Strange” lover, and this is by the same studio.

This is the story of two twins in Alaska that are delving into their shared memories to solve a mystery? Kinda?

It’s kind of a discombobulated mess…. none of the emotional moments really hit as they seem to be trying to. It kinda just wanders along til it’s over.

The setting is quite cool though!

I’m beginning to think it might be impossible for this studio to recapture what they got in Life is Strange and it’s prequel…. was just a perfect time capsule.

Someone on here suggested Lost Records though and I’ll give that one a try before I totally give up!

Music July 2025

Here’s da monthly and yearly playlist!

This was the month of Teenage Fanclub for me ya’ll….. This song “Tears Are Cool” has been repeated to beyond and hasn’t lost a bit of it’s spark. Been spinning their albums Thirteen and Grand Prix like it is my vocation.

Been bumping experimental pedal steel extraordinaire Susan Alcorn (RIP) this month. Mostly her first album that is not on streaming. Alcorn’s music is a deep well, highly worth looking into if you luv you some steel playing.

New Alex G of course bangs. This is my personal fave… really evokes the Alex G classics I know and luv

Tombstone Poetry opened our secret Weaverville show and they rawked<3 The front person of this band Caelan I have known since they were a wee babe. Their new song is gewd!!!!

I saw Moontype on the 4th of July at etc. in Greensboro !! They were so good I HIGHLY suggest catching them live if they’re in your area. Sick ass live band. New album (out on the incredible Orindal Records) is great great great

At the tail end of the month I started listening to Jake Tobin cause our TM Patrick was wearin a shirt from one oof his tours and I was like who that??? This song rocks

okay peace !!!

July 2025

omgggg wow hiiii guys! Another cwazy month for Wednesday related shiyt.

Heres’s the viddy from this month :)

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

here’s music I listened to this month

˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚

and movies and shit

We released “Pick Up That Knife”! Our bestie Sara (Xandy’s overlord) took all of the footage for the vid out on their land <3

I love this song very much !!! I was finally able to write about Xandy throwing up in the pit at Death Grips in a song… the prophecy has commenced.

We played two secret shows with our new guitarist, Spyder in Carrboro and Weaverville. Spydey is our BOY and we’ve known him for years and years and he’s been in a bunch of epic ass bands. One of the bands he’s in Space Heater opened our show at the Orange Peel last year and it was incred.

This ancient video of him playing in Nihilist Davis in a fluorescent lit school gym has gotten countless spins from me and my kin. I’m obsessed with that video you should watch it.

He also has a sick ass solo project called Splash Blade. Give it up for Spyder every day ya’ll!!!

Here’s a lil thrift books haul!

Death: The High Cost of Living - Neil Gaiman

Courtney Crumrin - Ted Naifeh

Johnny The Homicidal Maniac: Director's Cut - Jhonen Vasquez

Porcelain - Maria Llovet

Little Lazarus - Michael Bible (he gift me this actually, omg yayyyy)

I Could Smile For a While - Niptong (ordered from Random Man)

I beliebbbbe I only got one new (to me) clothing item (other than some thrifted athletic shorts to play tennis in) this month? It’s this red dress and I got it at Rumors in Carrboro/Chapel Hill when we played the Cradle Backroom

The brand is called “F.Y.I.”… dunno if it’s 90’s or what but it’s made in the USA on a paper tag which usually means its not made anytime too recently.

^spotted my dream car in Portland

^From the photobooth at Pabst Fest with my Mannequin Pussy babiez

We also filmed a viddy for ******* in a back yard… saw a lot of u bitches out there in the crowd for that <3 thanks for coming and being in the viddy

Here’s my fit of tha month…

it’s basically pretty simple… full of my favorite most reworn things

a blank black zippy sweatshirt I’ve had for like 3 years…. it fits me perfectly…. vintage with no tag…. frick

my dang ole engineer boots I’ve worn every day this summer

drop nineteens shirt I sewed on the graphic onto a white tank I got at goodwill

simple but effective

Wore this all day on Saturday at Pabst Fest in Portland

I did some window shopping in Portland at two AMAZING stores <3 I def am the kind of person that gets joy just from looking at amazing clothes… not necessarily buying anything

The two pictures above are some cool shoes that’re available at Stand Up Comedy . A really sweet small avant guarde/ independent designer store that’s been open for almost two decades ! It was such a cool spot

I also LOVED looking around Frances May right down the street

I didn’t have time to go to the really cool lookin magazine store called Chess Club but it’s on the list for next time.

My favorite meal of the trip was Chicken and Rice at Nong’s Khao Man Gai <3 it was such a comforting meal! Plus I got to share the meal with our sweetie tour manager Patrick!

by Cora Armstrong! ^

Had a really sweet breakfast at Based General Store and was talkin to the barista there who makes INCREDIBLE knitted artworks. Plus I got a free bowl of grits there which rawked.

Okay babies i think that basically it for this month! Keep swimmin’ !!

June 2025 Movies/TV/Books

Lots of movies this month mostly…. Too much fuckin time on my hands tbh!! Ready to play shows hehe

4/10 - Ginger Snaps - 2000 -

I looooove a campy creature feature. This one’s werewolf centric. Usually they’re very easy for me to love but I struggled with this’n.

I feel like the Harold and Maude influence was a bit heavy handed…

It’s really hard for me to enjoy a movie when the character’s motivations dont really make sense…. and that was the main downfall of this movie and it’s characters for me. There was never a great explanation of why these girls were so obsessed with death in the first place? Could’ve been subtextual but I never found it even hinted at…. hmmm…

Style wise I definitely fucked with this though. I’m a sucker for anything that looks even slightly like Buffy. I also love a menstruation/puberty metaphor and that was kinda the whole bit here. Overall… meh.

6/10 - Nowhere - 1997

Another month, another attempt to enjoy a Gregg Araki movie.

Damnnnn I for real wish i saw these in highschool….. I would’ve eaten them UPPPPPP.

But watching these as a 28 year old i can’t escape the feeling that they’re tryin so so hard to be edgy. And the visuals are so cool but I’d rather experience them in a music video possibly?

Definitely an entertaining watch but I think Araki films are just difficult for me to enjoy cause they make me think of the cringier times of my high school years, where I wanted my very normal suburban ass life to feel dangerous.

Definitely feel like it captures the apocalyptic feeling of being handed a world that’s a literal immolating trash fire.

I loved how sprawling the cast was and there are some majorly enjoyable lines of valley dialogue throughout.

8/10 - Pee-Wee As Himself - 2025

Bitch I love Pee-Wee. I watched the TV show as a kid, had a Pee-Wee and Chair-y doll. Lawrence Fishburn was Cowboy Curtis to me long before he was Morpheus.

I didn’t realized how interesting and subversive Paul Reuben’s early days were… I never put much thought to how his weirdo ass got himself his own TV show… but this doc does a really good job at laying it all out.

Under-rated genius, just the type of person that should have a documentary made about them. Plus at two hours, it took up just the right amount of space.

4/10 - Sirens - 2025

Meh.

I thought the main character was a lil too on the nose as far as like “burn-out older sister who lost her youth taking care of her younger sister” character goes.

I feel like this was a less interesting version of what “May December” Julianne Moore gave us.

I get the metaphor: womens alluring and intoxicating power over men… but idk, wasn’t that moved.

As far as a critique of extreme wealth goes… I was also not that moved cause there is just sooooo much media around that theme coming out, I feel like u really gotta forge a path and have something very specific to say.

Was fun seeing the guy from Always Sunny be a lil bitch boy though.

8/10 - Empire of Light - Michael Bible

An NC writer suggested to me by my friend Ashleigh.

I tore through this book. Really accessible and emotional writing.
Tells the story of a prank which turns into a murder which turns into the high school football star abandoning his post as a pillar of the community. All of which is sandwiched between a fantasy story of horses, princesses and a big ass war.

Definitely gonna read more of his books!

Still in Progress - Swamp Thing

Samuel loaned me this collection of early Swamp Thing comics.

Definitely the most traditional “superhero” type comic I’ve ever read

Been reading before bed and at the pool, gonna bring it to the beach for Alan’s birthday also <3 I think it’s perfect for that kinda setting but ultimately it’s not totally blowing my mind.

It’s a really nostalgic one for my best childhood friend though, so if reading it helps me connect with his inner child i’m so down.

Apparently this character is revisited later in a darker kinda way in a different, more recent series, I’m excited to check that out.

Cool to brush up on a classic tho! I love how bright and neon-y the artwork is in these older comics.

8/10 - A Woman Under the Influence - 1974 - Classic Cassevetes film with an all timer Gena Rowlands performance. Difficult ass watch. Drops you into the home of a woman struggling with her mental health, trying her best to throw dinner parties for her husband and his friends, and taking care of her children.

Completely un-glamorized approach to this particular struggle, unlike say, Girl Interrupted or Prozac Nation (both of which I also like) but where “unstable women” still come of as sexy in some ways.

AWUtI depicts it’s characters in all their hideousness. Both, Gena Rowlands character, who is struggling to pass as a “normal” house wife, and her husband and family who are reacting to her attempt.

Truly heartbreaking, probably never need to watch it again but glad I saw it once.

8/10 - Talented Mr. Ripley - 1999

I’ve never thought that Matt Damon was all that hot but DAMN … in a cast of gorgeous ass people he really goes above in beyond in this one. The classic 1950’s look reallllly suits him.

This movie was a wild fucking ride …. I don’t wanna spoil anything cause I watched this knowing basically nothing and it was awesome.

Recommend if you want the sexiness and beautiful scenery of “Call Me By Your Name” combined with the genre bending twistiness of “Anora” combined with idk… American Psycho??

7.5/10 - Slumber Party Massacre - 1982

Iconic ass erotic slasher!!!!!!

Bro I looooove when you can tell when a horror movie is made by women a la Jennifer’s Body. This movie walked so that movie and Scream could run IMO.

This movie is ultimately for the gurls!!!! Such a romp.

infintity/10 - Rap World - 2025

Free on Youtube

i <3 u connor omalley and also the boys from Joy Tactics

8.5/10 - Hacks - 2021 -

The first three seasons were genuinely some of the best comedic television I have seen in a long ass time. Fourth kinda felt like it was retreading old ground… reverting characters to older versions of themselves that I thought we had earned never seeing again.

But forreal, first three seasons had some incredible and surprising storytelling, and impecccable writing. Which is definitely necessary for a show that is about comedy writing.

Lot’s of fun bisexual antics storylines which is fuckin a breath of fresh air.

Kayla played by Megan Stalter is the most originally funny characters I’ve seen on modern television.

Only rivaled by Maria Sofia from the recent seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

10/10 - I Can Be Myself When Everyone I Know Is Dead - Kamila Mlynarczk

My mom got me a copy of Kamila’s book as a lil celebratory gesture! Kamila is doing all the album artwork and some merch art (to be seen hehe) for the Bleeds album.

I think she’s a fucking genius and really taps into the way I remember my childhood and the kinda dark but funny way my memories speak to me. I connected with her work very deeply and immediately because of this.

This book shows a lot of insight into her journey as a person, mother, and artist and I lovvvve how it ties in so so so so much of her artwork into the telling that story.

It’s organized by different themes she returns to in her work like: trash children, hair, motherhood, spirit guides, snails, vaginas, literal shit, scary sesame street, and more.

I love Kamila’s art so much I’m so glad to be working with her for this album cycle.

Still in progress - Black Postcards by Dean Wareham

This one was recommended to me by my boy Owen Ashworth of Orindal/Advance Base fame

The guy from Galaxie 500…. gd I love that band as well as the listening bar in Kyoto named after it

I’m still at the beginnings of this one, Dean is Post-Harvard, mid- Galaxie 500, pre-Luna.

I actually don’t know much about his other band Luna, but I’m excited to read about it and listen to the music simultaneous like.

Music June 2025

Here’s the Playlist for Juneeeee and the master playlist or the year and heres the master playlist on youtube !

It’s been another chaoottic month for me brain wise wtffff and my listening this month reflects that most absolutely

Found this CD at a shop in Valdese, NC… didn’t buy it but wish I did.

found this off of Eli’s Chasing Sundays substack…. and whew mama. Has a lil bit of douchey metal guitar in a way I LOVE

Deepening my hardcore research also led me to Integrity… and thank jesus for that

Listened to the new Kesha for the first time on a pontoon boat……. epic

Reminded me of when i first heard TikTok for the first time at my bat mitzvah party and it changed my fockin life

My boy samuel had a deep listening party for this stereolab album.

We sat around and listened all the way through, and i deepened my connection with many of the songs on the album<3 honestly, making an event out of music listening, with a group of friends has been kinda life changing for the way I interact with music

Heard this song on UNCG student radio the other day… i’m addicted to it. This guy apparently does all the beats for the Beastie Boys? IDK their discog that well if im tbh….. but i wanna

started emailing w matt from 9millions and exchanged some music. He recommended this final agony rec and its fweaking awesome.

One of ya’ll recommended this Pie album, I’ve been puttin it on oft

Also shout out to this Raymond Brake 7’’ that they sent me alsooooo

Last but not least, I smoked some weed and re listened to three Unwound albums all the way through and it was a religious experience. love u forever unwound

he’s so incredible I’m so glad he’s getting his work out there with all the album art he’s done for MJ, Friendship and Colin Miller and moreeee

“Wound Up Here (By Holdin’ On)” video by Joriel Cura who actually reached out to me through this website!! I’m so glad he did cause he kilt this video. First time being shot on film and boy oh boy do I like how that looks

Most of the band was out on tour so it’s mostly just me in this bitch but xandy makes a brief cameo driving his truck around his land.

our bassist ethan made this 8-bit drawing of the video!!!! omg

Discovered some kewl artists through the Random Man Publishing website. I ordered a few of their books!

The one I wanted by an artist Teng Yung Han was out but their site (@han_teng for insta users) has lots of drawings and ceramics to appreciate on there!

I pretty desperately want this towel by Niptong and Future Host from the Random Man website but I will stay strong for now and get it as some reward for myself down the line for something

Random Man Publishing seems to be really good site for a curated list of artists in this type of style that’s not algorithm based! I’m bookmarking myself for future use/ to keep up with.

Got this 1/1 dress from Loyal Pup

Been obsessed with their airbrush work for a while, glad to have finally pulled the trigger on somn

Umm…. usually I put a little hint at the end of these posts about what the next single is but I’m actually confused about what the next one is and i’m too scared to ask……

I’ll bug my manager about it and put a hint here later lol

Really wish I could get a copy of this VHS publication of Nick Zedd’s - “War is Menstrual Envy” but it’s also out of stock!

I’m truly truly loving the curation of this website. What a cool rabbit hole.

May 2025

well………. it begins………

We released Elderberry Wine <333333 more soon hehe

We also played Colbert and ya’ll…. I was sick as a fucking DOG when we recorded this (we taped it on May 1st which is how most of the band was in Winston-Salem playing with MJ Lenderman on the night it came out).

I had a cold AND allergies AND was on my fuckingggggg period when we recorded that bitch…. and considering all that I think it turned out a-okay!

That shit was nerve wracking tho tell you what….. especially cause that song is so much more reserved than our other shit it was daunting to not be able to like totally let loose on something. I love Colbert too so I was like …. hello king!!!!!! starstruck

The filming of the Elderberry music video was so fucking epic………. It’s at the bar that my dad’s been frequenting for like 30 years. They were so hospitable to us <3

We had an open bar tab for everyone at the shoot when it started at 10am and by 12 pm everyone was fucking SMASHEDDDDDD. We worked until like 9pm that day so it was a very long very drunk day.

Special shout out to John who was in the video and unfortunately passed away on May 12th, I’m so glad his memory will live on in this video. Alan and Xandy especially were chilling with John and playing cards the day of the video shoot and he was just like an immediate homies. <3 Pour one out for him ya’ll!

also gotta shout out the Grimsley hat which I have had FOREVER but has been making the rounds in my wardrobe recently…. here is a picture of me wearing it when I was a freshman in highschool….. why do I look exactly the fuckin same…… also yes that is a blackberry phone…. and Sperry’s on my gd feet hahah<3

Ummmmm I got two clothing items this month, both when I visited NYC at the store Lara Koleji <3

This bangin ass Diesel button up (the epaulets!!!). I’m obsessed with the Pegasus print on the back too.

I also got these Vivienne Westwood sunnies. I only got one other pair of sunglasses and they don’t go with most stuff I got cause they’re brown tinted and I dont hardly ever wear brown. This pair is like army green… which is kinda a neutral… idk I feel llike they’ll go with everything I need em to

Here’s my psychical media haul for the month

I actually got Run Lola Run last month, but I didn’t feel like retaking the pic so there she is again.

Charlies Angels… classic.

Green Room and Grudge are both scary movies. I think i’ve seen Green Room but it’s been a minute and I have a terrible memory so it’ll kinda be like watching it for the first time when I throw it in the player.

Already been reading and loving Double Bird!

A few pages into Barry Hannah’s Geronimo Rex, too early to say how he ranks among my other fave southern writers.

I haven’t read the Shirley Jackson but I love her so I’ll probably love it but we’ll see!

In other news I went to Stud Country Line Dancing in NYC this month and was obsesssssed with the cutie community they have there. If ur gay as hell and love country music and are interested in line dancing I highly recommend you check it out! They have classes/dancing in a few cities, I know SF, LA, NYC and Nashville for sure.

It’s intimidating at first but very forgiving so even if u don’t got experience dancing I still recommend.

new tummy tattttt by @yourmomhatesyourtattoos

got a new webcam…. photo shoot tyme

Cd haulllllll!! Got these at Static Age in Asheville and Play It Again in Valdese, NC ff exit 111.

Earth, Pavement, Uncle Tupelo, Red House Painters, and some mysterious Yo La Tengo CD im not sure exactly what it is…. excited to find out. I hope its a live bootleg or somn.

I think that’s p much it for now!! Thanks for all the support on the new song. The one coming out next is one of my faves I’ve ever written. I’ll see ya there if ur holdin’ on.

Music May 2025

I made both a monthly playlist as well as a 2025 master playlist! Sorry I use spotify… I am ashamed!!! But I’ve got playlists from friends that have since passed away on there that I’m scared to transfer for some reason. lol that’s my excuse…. I’m also gradually trying to make a playlist on Youtube for these but it’s kinda a time suck… I’ll just sit down and watch some movies and try to update it all.

Damn it’s been a chaotic ass listening month for me… if you can’t tell. I got a fuckin jonas brothers song on the playlist??? ok girl. As well as the Jet Set Radio soundtrack… so good for running though.

I’ve been bumping the new Bitchin’ Baja’s record with the Natural Information Society. Their whole discography rocks. I wish this was the music that was playing anytime I get a massage. It’s definitely a sound for that type of situation… but the best version of it. I saw them play a few years ago at the Pilot Light in Knoxville and it was the last time live music made me cry (actually not true I cried when Waxahatchee played “Much Ado About Nothing” at Hopscotch). But the Baja’s made me cry cause they were holding a single beautiful chord for like 5 minutes and then changed it to another somehow more beautiful chord…. I was MOVED.

The new Florry album is completely blowing my mind. Francie’s voice is wildly good on this new shit. Especially in their song “Pretty Eyes Lorraine”. Whole album fucking cooks tho.

Binch I love Toner. They’re a Wednesday tour van staple. We’ve played with them a few times too and they’re secret sweeties…. although you could be fooled by how like “idgaf” they look lol

I think I talked about the new Friendship music last month, but that record is out too and fucking rocks.

New Tracy Nelson record! We met Austin years ago when we played a Philly show with Tagabow and Hotline TNT and he was on second guitar.

Jake recorded this a billion years ago when we still lived in Haw Creek together so it’s kinda crazy to hear now. I sing on a bunch of these. “Just Shoot Me Now” is my faveeeeeey.
